When renting a car in Jordan (or anywhere else), you’ll want to hit the road without worrying about anything. A good insurance package helps you enjoy traveling through this magical desert country to the fullest. But what is the best way to insure your rental car? And which insurance terms and conditions are essential?
Some rental companies seem to make a sport of stuffing their rental terms and conditions with vague terms. Unfortunately, this makes comparing providers unnecessarily difficult. Choosing appropriate insurance is, therefore, something many people struggle with.
A good first step is to familiarize yourself with the various terms and abbreviations used in the insurance world. Then, you will see that even in Jordan, it is possible to insure a rental car effortlessly without a deductible and all-risk. In this article, you will read how to do this and what other insurance options are available.

Sand, gravel, and off-road driving
Jordan consists of almost 90 percent desert landscape. Therefore, you will encounter photogenic dunes and drive along vast sandy plains. There are also high cliffs here and there. Some of the most beautiful roads in Jordan sit through and around the cliffs.
The presence of all this natural beauty means that there is a lot of sand and pebbles on the road. Be aware of this: sand drifts can cause road blockages, and falling and flying stones can cause damage to tires, paint, and windows.
Damage caused by driving off-road is never insured.

Insurance options for your rental car in Jordan
Those who like to be on the safe side are best off with all-risk insurance. Both local and international rental companies offer this option. Do you prefer not to insure your rental car all-risk? It is also possible to obtain the desired coverage with separate insurance components. Just make sure that you do not end up at a similar price as with an all-risk package.
Standard and legally required
As in other countries, third-party insurance - the standard required by law - is also mandatory in Jordan. With most rental companies, this insurance is already included in the price. This insurance covers the driver's liability if he or she causes damage - bodily injury and vehicle damage - to a third party.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Is there damage to the rental car due to a collision or accident? Then this insurance limits the maximum amount you can be liable for. In most cases, however, there is a deductible. Do you prefer to pay so you don’t have a hefty deductible or one at all? Then SuperCDW offers a solution.
Note: damage to a rental car's tires, floor plate, or windows is often excluded from coverage.
Theft Protection (TP1)
This insurance component provides coverage for damage and theft. However, there is a deductible. Want to buy off part or all of this deductible? Then choose TP2.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
While many insurance policies focus on compensating for vehicle damage, this policy is designed to cover injury or death to the vehicle’s occupants. It also sometimes provides coverage for damage to personal property.
Before purchasing a PAI, check exactly what, if any, the main driver's third-party insurance policy covers. This is because some third-party insurance policies also offer coverage for occupants.

Tire and Windshield Protection (TWP)
Individual insurance policies often exclude damage to tires or windshields. If you want to insure yourself against this, you can take out a TWP.
Roadside Assistance (RSA) and Roadside Assistance Protection Plus
Are you stranded by the roadside with a breakdown and have taken out RSA? Then you can call roadside assistance. The exact service they provide may vary from rental company to rental company. In most cases, someone will come and help you.
Depending on the insurance you have taken out, you may or may not pay (part of) the equipment costs. However, have you not paid for roadside assistance insurance? Then the rental company may offer you help for a fee.
Always contact the rental company in the event of a breakdown or damage. Do not try to repair it on your own. If you do it yourself, the repair costs and any additional follow up costs will be your responsibility.
All-risk insurance for your rental car in Jordan
Although many rental companies use this term, the same coverage does not apply everywhere. For example, damage to certain rental car parts may be excluded. Also, sometimes there is still a deductible. We recommend good coverage because you never know what you’ll encounter while driving around Jordan.
